Bangalore (Karnataka), 17 March 2010: At last after a long drawn court proceedings and deliberations the clouds of uncertainty over the Mahavir Jayanthi (Janmakalyana) celebrations at Bangalore has ended. The directions from the high court of Karnataka has cleared all the hurdles for the celebrations. The high court on 15th March gave directions to the petitioners Jain Yuva Sanghatan (JYS) that they can approach the Election Commissioner of Karantaka and get required letter directing the police commissioner of Bangalore to give all the required permissions and protection for the smooth celebrations of the event.
As a follow up to the high court directions members of the JYS meet the Election Commissioner of Karantaka and requested him to give the much wanted letter of direction to the police commissioner of Bangalore to give all the required permissions to conduct the event. The JYS team on further approaching the police commissioner with the letter from the Election Commissioner of Karantaka have got all the required permissions for celebrating the event. The police commissioner of police has assured all kind of protection to the Jains during the celebrations so as to avoid any untoward incidents on the back drop of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections on the same day.
It can be recalled her that there existed an uncertainty over the Mahavir Jayanthi celebrations at Bangalore on the 28th of March as the BBMP elections have been scheduled on the same day. As per the election code of conduct in India individuals/organisations cannot organise functions, gatherings or processions on the day of elections. JYS and many other Jain organisations had filed a petition at the high court of Karnataka in this connection.
This is infact a very good news for Jains in general and Jains of Bangalore in particular as they have been allowed to celebrate Mahavir Jayanthi without any hurdles. Jains from across Bangalore have expressed happiness over the decision and have welcomed the decision of the High Court.
JYS, WWW.JAINHERITAGECENTRES.COM and other Jain organisations thank the internet community for all their support extended in the due course of the proceedings. - Jain Heritage Centres News Service
